This Week in Fayette County

This Week in Fayette County

Happy Monday! It’s been a busy couple of weeks here at the FCDC. Between Meet+Greets, canvassing, and encouraging new voters to get registered, there hasn’t been a minute to spare. We’re very grateful to all of our wonderful volunteers who have been working tirelessly to promote the Democratic message in Fayette County–2022 WILL be the year that we flip blue!

In this post, we’ll be going over some general updates, our events schedule, and some fun things that have been going on over the last couple of weeks. If you want to get involved supporting Democratic candidates in Fayette County, there’s still plenty of time to join in. Keep reading to learn more about upcoming opportunities!

The first thing to note is that all events from Sunday October 2nd are being rescheduled due to an abundance of caution regarding weather conditions. With events being canceled all over the state of Georgia, we wanted to make sure our scheduled events can proceed safely. Thank you for your patience, and be sure to subscribe to our newsletter so you’ll be the first to know when our rescheduled event is confirmed later this month. (click here to subscribe).

That means that our next event will be a Meet+Greet taking place this coming Thursday on October 6th in Peachtree City. So far, we have candidates Tish Naghise and William Harris confirmed, with more attendees to be announced over the next few days. Click here to view this event on our website. The evening will start at 6pm and finish at approximately 7:30pm. Please come out to support your local candidates and find out how you can support the FCDC in the run up to the election. Meet+Greets are a great opportunity to meet other Democrats in Fayette County and have direct access to the candidates who are representing YOU. So, come along to enjoy an evening of powerful discussion, refreshments, and political activism in your local community!

Our previous Meet+Greet took place on Thursday September 22nd, and the event was a huge success. We heard from candidates Valencia Seay, Regina Daigre, Tish Naghise and Charles Rousseau, who all took to the stage and spoke directly to the people of Fayetteville. It was so inspiring to hear about the issues that our representatives are passionate about and know that they have our backs when it comes to reproductive rights, climate change, education reform, voter suppression and so much more. We also heard from both FCDC Chair Carolyn Fludd and a representative from the Stacey Abrams campaign who came out to join us for the evening. Check out some of our photos below!

We’ve had lots of volunteers signing up to take on responsibilities in the coming weeks. From putting out lawn signs to joining us on canvassing expeditions in Tyrone, GA, it’s going to be all hands on deck for the foreseeable future. The main message of this Meet+Greet was simple: help us get out the vote! Text your friends, pick up a lawn sign and, most importantly, VOTE EARLY. The state of Georgia has some of the worst voter suppression laws in the country, and we cannot rely on the democratic process to ensure that your vote is counted and that your voice is heard. Voting early ensures that your ballot is in the box and that no one, no matter how powerful they may be, can touch it. Early voting is the best way to avoid standing in long lines on election day and ensure that you will not be turned away from your local voting precinct.

Tish Naghise and Regina Daigre need YOU to Vote Early! (Begins October 17th)

Last weekend, we were focused on encouraging everyone to register to vote while out canvassing for candidates Tish Naghise and Regina Daigre. We spent the morning in the lovely town of Tyrone, speaking with members of the community and making sure they had all the important dates marked on their calendars. It was great to see such a warm response from the people of Tyrone, and to see them connect with their Democratic representatives. Fayette County Commissioner of District 4, Charles Rousseau, also came out to join us and, along with a committed group of volunteers, we were able to cover a lot of ground.

If you’re interested in hitting the pavement and helping us get out the vote, there are lots of canvassing opportunities coming up. FCDC canvassing events will be listed directly on our website, but you can also check out mobilize to join campaigns for candidates such as Stacey Abrams.

On Thursday, Dr. Regina Daigre made Fayette County Democrats proud with her performance at the District 4 non-partisan Board of Education Forum. There’s nothing more important than electing a Democrat to the local school board, so make sure you tell everyone you know on the Northside of Fayette County to VOTE DAIGRE when early voting begins on October 17th.

Don’t forget! The voter registration deadline is October 11th, just under a week away. Please double check your registration and ensure there are no mistakes (especially if you have recently moved or changed your name), and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Every vote counts, and Fayette County needs every last Democrat to turn out at the polls this month. As well as weekday early voting beginning October 17th, you will have the option to vote on Saturdays (22nd and 29th October). Click here to download the FCDC’s “Voting Checklist” to make sure you have a voting plan in place and that your vote will be counted.
