Democracy should be easy, so we’ve gathered together a host of free voting resources geared towards getting you to the polls and out of the polls with no headaches necessary.
The first step on your journey to the voting booth is to make sure you’re eligible to cast a ballot.
You are eligible to vote in Fayette County (and Georgia as a whole) if:
- You are a US citizen – either by birth or by completing the naturalization process
- You are a legal resident of the county where you are registering
- You are at least 17½ years old and will be 18 on election day
- You are not serving a sentence for conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude
- You have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge
You have to be registered where you live before you can vote. This means if you have never voted in Georgia or you voted in Georgia but not where you live now, you need to register. Registering to vote is easy and free. You have to complete a registration form and show proof of who you are and where you live.
There are three ways to register. Pick the way that is easiest for you:
Register Online:
Voters who do not have a Georgia driver’s license or DDS-issued voter ID card must submit their voter registration by mail or in person (you cannot register online).
Register to vote by mail by taking the following easy steps:
- Get a registration application by printing one, going to your County Elections Office, or getting an application at a Post Office or at your public library.
- Complete and sign the application and mail it to your County Elections Office. Don’t forget postage! Click here to view your Fayette County registrar’s contact information.
- If you are registering to vote in GA for the first time: Include a copy of your photo ID and proof of residence, like a utility bill or a copy of your lease.
- Check online in a couple of weeks to make sure the submission worked. To do that follow the instructions at the top of the page to check your registration or call the Georgia Democrats at the Voter Protection Hotline: 1-888-730-5816
You can register in person at your County Registrar Office or when you apply or renew your Georgia driver’s license:

- Go to the office and tell them you want to register to vote. They will lead you through what you need to do.
- You can also register to vote when you renew your driver’s license or change information on your license by going into the driver’s license bureau. There is a place on the form that will ask you if you want to register to vote. Check the box to register or update your registration!

Check if You’re Registered:
In order to vote, you must be registered where you live. Check to make sure that your registration is up to date! If you move counties, you MUST re-register.
With internet access all you need to do is go to https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/. Put in your name, county, and date of birth.
Your registration is displayed immediately in the center of the screen.
I don’t have computer/Internet access. What can I do?
Please call the Voter Protection Hotline at 888-730-5816. It is easy for us to check your registration for you and to help you troubleshoot if there is a problem.
What if it doesn’t show that I’m registered?
Make sure you check prior addresses and counties – maybe your registration wasn’t updated when you moved. Also check any common misspellings of your name. When data is entered in the system sometimes errors are made. If you find an error, like an old address, wrong county, or misspelling, it should be corrected by updating your registration by using one of the methods on this page.
It shows I’m registered but it has old or wrong information. What next?
For example, if you have moved you have to be registered at your new address. Whether it is that or something else, you will need to update your registration. Usually this can be done online by going to registertovote.sos.ga.gov. In some cases – like where a name may have been copied into the system with a misspelling — you can call your county registrar and they will correct it. And always, call the Voter Protection Hotline at 888-730-5816 and we will help you figure it out.
I still can’t find my registration. What next?
Re-register at registertovote.sos.ga.gov or try one of the other ways to register!

¿Puedo votar?
Puedes votar en Georgia si:
- Eres ciudadano/a de los Estados Unidos – por nacimiento o por haber completado el proceso de naturalización

Inscribirte por internet para votar

Inscribirte por correo para votar

Verificar si estás inscrito(a)
Para poder votar, necesitas estar inscrito(a) donde vives. ¡Verifica que tu registro esté actualizado! Si cambias de domicilio a otro condado, NECESITAS inscribirte de nuevo.

¿Qué pasa si no muestra que esté inscrito(a)?
