Tim Thoms Running for Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor

Tim Thoms Running for Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor

Tim Thoms, a Fayette County resident, is a candidate for the non-partisan, volunteer, non-compensated, office of District Supervisor of the Towaliga Soil and Water Conservation District representing Fayette County. The Towaliga District encompass Butts, Fayette, Monroe, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties.

Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) were created in 1937 by the Georgia General Assembly to protect the state’s soil and water resources following the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s. Besides protecting, conserving, and improving the state’s soil and water resources, Districts provide a way for citizens to set local resource priorities for state and federal assistance programs.

Current District Supervisors asked Tim to serve as the elected Supervisor to replace the retiring Travis Hardy. Tim has lived in Fayette County for over thirty-five years, and believes that he should use his experience, education, and knowledge for his community. His credentials as a Landscape Architect with small farms in Fayette and Spalding County, as well as the civic service he has volunteered for the past thirty plus years, enable him to be well-suited to serve in this capacity. Tim has displayed a long-time commitment to civic duty, especially when it comes to water and the environment, having led several professional and volunteer organizations as a board member or leader, including the ACF Stakeholders, Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, UGA School of Environmental Design Alumni Association, Georgia Waterwise Council, and has previously served on the Fayette County Planning and Zoning  Commission for eight years.

If elected, Tim feels his talents can be used to effectively and efficiently set priorities for programs to conserve and enhance our soil and water resources.
