This Week in Fayette County: Early Voting Time, Everybody

(Breaking: Senator Warnock will be coming to Peachtree City on Friday, October 21st, for a rally and golf cart early voting convoy to the library. We want to spread the word about this event to as many people as possible. Please, check our website homepage and follow us on our socials below for more information and sharable content in the coming days)

We’re barreling towards the election now and it’s going to be a hectic few weeks, especially here in Georgia. The voter registration deadline has now passed and early voting will begin Monday October 17th. It’s more important than ever that we hit the polls early this year. Voter suppression affects every county in Georgia, but casting your vote during early voting ensures that your ballot is in the box. If you’re looking for something to do before early voting begins, we have plenty of events going on this week for you to join in with. Keep reading to find out!

In this post, we’ll be going over some general updates, our events schedule, and some fun things that have been going on over the last couple of weeks. If you want to get involved supporting Democratic candidates in Fayette County, there’s still plenty of time to join in. Keep reading to learn more about upcoming opportunities!

Events

Our events page has been updated to shine a bigger spotlight on important upcoming events. Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter if you haven’t already to get important updates on time adjustments/venue changes (click here to subscribe).

Some of our biggest events this week will be debate watch parties; we have Warnock vs. Walker on Friday, October 14th and Abrams vs. Kemp on Monday, October 17th. Both events will be held at the FCDC Headquarters in Fayetteville (185 Kathi Ave) from 6 – 9 PM. Food will be provided at both watch parties, with a very tasty menu on Friday – you’ll have to come out to try it! Outdoor seating will be available, so bring a friend or family member with you for an evening of refreshments and political discussion.

We also have a candidate Meet and Greet this Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville. The event will start at 3 PM on October 16th and is taking place at 190 Pine Knott Road. Let us know you’re coming by using our Facebook Event below:

Canvassing events will be taking place pretty much everyday across Fayette County this week. We need as many volunteers as possible to join the cause and help us reach Democratic voters in our community; no experience necessary. If you are able to give us even just a couple hours of your time we can make a huge difference in flipping Fayette BLUE this election cycle. We need you now more than ever, so please consider signing up to a canvassing event. Georgia Votes have all their volunteer shifts listed on mobilize.us (click here) and FCDC canvassing groups are listed on the events page of our website (click here).

Our first FCDC canvassing group this week will be going out before the Warnock watch party on Friday in Centennial from 4pm-6pm. There will also be a group going out on Saturday in Millbrook Village from 4pm-6pm. We are really trying to reach all Democrats in our local community, encourage them to vote early and to have meaningful conversations with their family, friends, and neighbors. Please join us!

The main message of our Meet+Greets is simple: help us get out the vote! Text your friends, pick up a lawn sign and, most importantly, VOTE EARLY. Early voting begins in just under a week. The state of Georgia has some of the worst voter suppression laws in the country, and we cannot rely on the democratic process to ensure that your vote is counted and that your voice is heard. Voting early ensures that your ballot is in the box and that no one, no matter how powerful they may be, can touch it.

Early voting is the best way to avoid standing in long lines on election day and ensure that you will not be turned away from your local voting precinct. We really have a shot at flipping our county blue in this election, so please do all that you can to help!

Don’t forget! Please double check your registration and ensure there are no mistakes (especially if you have recently moved or changed your name), and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Every vote counts, and Fayette County needs every last Democrat to turn out at the polls this month. As well as weekday early voting beginning October 17th, you will have the option to vote on Saturdays (22nd and 29th October). Click here to download the FCDC’s “Voting Checklist” to make sure you have a voting plan in place and that your vote will be counted.
