Join Us for Fayette County Democratic Committee Day at the Capitol!
Join us on February 9, 2026, for an immersive day of advocacy and action at the Georgia State Capitol!
We will kick off the morning at 8:30 AM with check-in, followed immediately by a deep dive into the 2026 legislative landscape. Starting at 9:00 AM, we will gather in the CLOB building (directly across from the Gold Dome building) for a quick overview and refreshments. You’ll also get critical updates on any "Bills to Watch" that directly impact our community from our Fayette County delegation.
At 10:00 AM, we will gather on the iconic South Stairs inside the Capitol for a group photo—a powerful visual of Fayette’s growing strength. You will then witness democracy in action, observing the Senate Session from the gallery at 11:00 AM and sitting in on key Committee Meetings at noon.
We conclude the official schedule at 1:00 PM, giving you the flexibility to watch the House Session, take a historic tour, or head out feeling informed and inspired. Don't miss this chance to walk the halls of power with your fellow Democrats!

New Year, New Laws: What Georgia Residents Need to Know for 2026
Parking & Booting: Drivers Beware
You might want to double-check those signs before walking away from your vehicle. A new law taking effect in January grants private property owners’ explicit authority to boot trespassing vehicles in jurisdictions that permit it. To enforce this, owners are required to post clear warning signs. If you are parking on private land, make sure you are following the rules to avoid a costly headache.
Savings: Preparing for the Unexpected
While getting booted is a hassle, the state is making it easier to financially prepare for much bigger problems. Starting in January, all Georgia taxpayers can open a Catastrophe Savings Account.
• Residents are limited to one account per person.
• The money is designated for disaster-related losses, allowing you to set aside tax-advantaged funds to safeguard against future emergencies.
Ethics & Insurance: Important Updates
Several other changes are on the horizon regarding government transparency and consumer protection:
• The State Ethics Commission will no longer accept complaints regarding candidates or campaigns within 60 days of an election. Additionally, local officials must now submit their campaign and finance reports directly to the state commission.
• If your insurance carrier plans to terminate your policy, they now must give you more heads-up. The mandatory notice period has been doubled from 30 days to 60 days, giving homeowners and drivers more time to find new coverage.
Volunteer for Key FCDC Positions
The strength of FCDC comes from the dedication of its members! We are looking to fill two essential positions. This is your chance to take on a leadership role and directly shape the future of our Democratic efforts in Fayette County.
We are actively seeking passionate and committed individuals to sign up to run for the following roles:
1. Executive Board Secretary
The Secretary plays a vital role in keeping FCDC running smoothly and efficiently. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate records of our meetings, managing important communications, and ensuring the Executive Board operates in an organized manner.
Key Responsibilities: Taking minutes at Executive Board and general meetings, managing FCDC records, and assisting with official correspondence.
Ideal for: Organized individuals with strong attention to detail and a commitment to transparency.
2. District 5 Committee Member
District Committee Members are the direct link between the FCDC leadership and the grassroots members in their specific district. As the representative for District 5, you will help mobilize voters, organize local events, and ensure the voices of your neighbors are heard at the county level.
Key Responsibilities: Engaging with voters in District 5, coordinating local campaigns and events, and representing the district’s interests at FCDC meetings.
Ideal for: Energetic community organizers who are passionate about local engagement.

FAYETTE’S TRAJECTORY
Our South Atlanta enclave of growing Democrats has a chance to flip BLUE for the first time in decades, the end result of a 20 year long effort started by our founder Ernie Broadwell. Ernie brought Fayette Democrats together for the first time in 2003, with less than 30% of our County’s vote share. On November 3rd, 2026, we will flip fully to Democratic control.
