1. Georgia Republicans are in disarray and cementing their brand as the anti-democracy party.
Senate Bill 202, signed by Governor Kemp, will make it harder for Georgia voters – particularly people of color – to cast their ballots. It is dangerous for our democracy and based on nothing but debunked lies about the presidential election.
Senate Bill 221, which Governor Kemp signed in secret, guts our state’s limits on political spending, opening the floodgates for special interest money to flow into our political system because Republican incumbents are terrified of losing their upcoming elections.
Other state Republicans, like Attorney General Chris Carr, are facing backlash for their role in the January insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Though Republicans may try to hide their records, Georgia voters know them for what they really are – extremists who put politics ahead of democracy.
Meanwhile, Republicans like Lieutenant General Geoff Duncan, who was one of the only Georgia Republicans to criticize SB 202 or stand up to Donald Trump’s lies about the election, has decided to not run for re-election, showing there is no longer room for truth or common sense in today’s GOP.
2. Thanks to the leadership of President Biden and Democrats, America is back on track.
Weekly unemployment claims have fallen to the lowest level since March of last year and retail sales soared well past expectations last month, thanks to the $1,400 stimulus checks secured by Senators Ossoff and Warnock and House Democrats.
With the effective distribution of vaccines under President Biden and the aid in the American Rescue Plan, Georgians are beginning to go back to work, small businesses are able to keep their doors open, and lives are beginning to return to normal.
Today, the Biden administration announced that roughly 39 million families – around 88% of children – will begin receiving direct cash payments in July under the expanded Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan.
Georgians know that our country is back on track thanks to President Biden, Senator Ossoff, Senator Warnock, and House Democrats, while Republicans continue to stand in the way.
3. While America is back on track, we are still on the road to recovery. President Biden’s American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan are critical next steps.
This is the moment to reimagine and rebuild a new American economy.
The American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan are once-in-a-generation investments in America to meet our current infrastructure needs, create good-paying jobs, and strengthen the foundations of middle-class prosperity: education, health care, and child care.
